A Mandala in Stone & Light

This table takes its cue from one of the oldest decorative traditions on the subcontinent — inlay and mosaic craft — and renders it in one of the most luminous of all minerals. Hundreds of thin selenite tiles are laid in a radiating, brick-set pattern that fans outward from the centre, each fibre catching light at a slightly different angle so the whole surface shimmers as you move around it. At the heart sits a hand-set mandala: concentric rings of crushed crystal and mother-of-pearl, sealed in clear resin and ground flush, like a sunburst frozen in stone.

How It Is Made

Selenite is exquisite but fragile — soft, layered, and water-sensitive — so we never ask the raw stone to be a surface. Instead, the mosaic is built up on a rigid honeycomb-backed panel, the tiles bonded and the gaps filled with clear resin, then levelled. The entire top is then sealed beneath a sheet of low-iron tempered glass, edged with a slim metal frame so no raw stone is ever exposed. The glass — not the gypsum — is what your guests touch, set their glasses on, and wipe clean. The selenite simply glows beneath it, protected for a lifetime.

The Option of Light

Because selenite is translucent, the table can be specified with discreet integrated LED backlighting beneath the mosaic. Switched on in a low-lit room, the entire top turns to soft, alabaster-white light — the crystal mandala at the centre glowing brightest. It is, quite literally, a centrepiece.
